Thursday, 9/15 – School Daze

I only saw 3 or 4 or maybe 6 or 7(?) fall asleep during my class presentations to 7th & 8th grade science students today at Wooden Middle School in Martinsville!  Pretty good numbers considering I shared dino samples and stories with five separate classes of about 20-25 students each.

Had them move their chairs up as close as possible to the sample table at the back of Mrs. Mathews’ very nice science classroom. Mrs. M shared a few photos from the day with me and in every one my hands are flailing around; I may need to work on that!

Definitely need to try to keep my hands down some
Steve emphasizing some “critical” point?!

This is the same middle school our two kids went to many years ago. I don’t think I’ve walked into the building since 2005 or 2006, our youngest, Ethan’s, last year there. Shared some fossil specimens from various time periods and locations and had a good amount of back and forth with the 7th & 8th grade science classes. I have two more days with a similar set up – talking to 5 separate science classes, one after another, for a full day. Next Tuesday and then one day the next week. I had a good time in Mrs. Mathews’ classes and I’m sure will have more of the same coming up. It is so good to be able to be invited back into school settings after the long Covid pause we’ve all been under.
